Wegofair ‘Countermeasures Against Counterfeit Goods and Reporting Practices Seminar’ Successfully Held

AI-powered counterfeit monitoring and blocking service specialist Wegofair (CEO Jongmyeon Kim, www.wegofair.com)successfully hosted a 'Counterfeit Goods Response Measures and Reporting Practices Seminar' at the IP Campus of the Korea Intellectual Property Office Seoul Office on May 29th.

This seminar, organized by Wegofair to raise awareness about the importance of intellectual property rights, was attended by individuals working in entertainment, content, and fashion. Highlighting the Significance of Intellectual Property Rights and Providing Practical Solutions Through Case Studies

Key seminar topics included the dangers of counterfeit goods, analyses of prominent counterfeit goods cases, introductions to domestic and international trademark and copyright infringement cases, summaries of rulings related to the allowance of parallel imports, the possibility of enforcement against genuine reselling, the counterfeit goods response process, and the procedures for reporting counterfeit goods on platforms like Shopee and Alibaba. These topics were presented through various real-world examples that attendees could relate to, earning high praise.

Wegofair CEO Jongmyeon Kim (Patent Attorney) explained laws related to counterfeit goods, such as trademark and copyright laws, along with domestic and international legal precedents related to actual counterfeit goods. Additionally, Harim Song, Wegofair's team leader overseeing counterfeit goods enforcement, shared insights on the methods for reporting on Alibaba and Shopee.

Practical information was introduced for reporting counterfeit goods found on domestic and international online marketplaces. The presentation detailed how to utilize the Alibaba IPP platform to identify and stop the sale of counterfeit products distributed through Alibaba Group's e-commerce platforms, including Taobao, Tmall, AliExpress, and Lazada, offering a practical approach for industry professionals.

Efforts to Prevent Intellectual Property Infringement Through Regularly Scheduled Practical Seminars

Following the lectures, a consultation booth was set up to provide support to businesses and designers facing difficulties with counterfeit goods. Attendees who work in the field expressed that while they were aware of intellectual property infringement damages, they had many concerns about the diverse counterfeit product sales cases and complex reporting procedures. They shared that the seminar, with its focus on various cases, provided a valuable opportunity to gain a better understanding of countermeasures against counterfeit goods.

Junho Lee, Director of Wegofair, stated, "Given the rapid growth of C-commerce platforms like AliExpress and Temu, which has exacerbated the counterfeit goods issue, we realized that there was a lack of practical seminars that could genuinely help industry professionals. This led us to plan this seminar."

He further explained, "Brand company representatives have often expressed frustration due to the lack of opportunities to learn about specific reporting methods, etc. We intend to regularly conduct these practical seminars in the future to provide as much help as possible to those representatives."
